Fertility issues for the modern working woman

Every woman wants to have a baby at some point in her life. In today’s world however, this may come later than early on in her life. She finishes her education, gets a job, tries to build her career and then starts thinking of starting a family. This frequently happens when she is in her thirties.

But women have a biological clock. So for a modern, career oriented woman, this may not be very easy. Hence the increasing numbers of women coming for treatment of infertility.

Infertility is defined as an inability to conceive after 12 months of unprotected intercourse. This is the time when a couple is diagnosed with infertility and treatment is initiated. If however, the female partner is older than 35 years, it is advisable to seek help sooner, after 3-4 months of trying on your own.

If she is older than 40 years or is known to have a gynaecological problem like endometriosis, polycystic ovaries, pelvic infection, irregular menstrual cycles, the couple should consult a gynaecologist immediately after marriage.
